A/Prof Mark Tibbett, Director Phone: 08 6488 2635 Email: mark.tibbett@uwa.edu.au Mark joined the CLR in 2003. His research interests include: microbial ecology, early ecosystem succession and incipient soil development, biogeochemical cycling (of nutrients and pollutants) in terrestrial ecosystems, restoration ecology and the function of mycorrhizas in ecosystems. He has wide experience with different ecosystems, having worked in tropical, mediterranean, temperate and polar regions.
Professor Lynette Abbott Phone: 08 6488 5551 Email: labbott@cyllene.uwa.edu.au
Dr Suman George, Research Associate Phone: 08 6488 2504 Email: sgeorge@cyllene.uwa.edu.au
Suman completed his PhD at UWA. His expertise is in land rehabilitation, particularly with respect to nutrient cycling and bioremediation. He has been involved with consultancy work for various mining companies. Suman joined the CLR in 2005 and is jointly supervising one honours and two Masters Students in Land Rehabilitation.
Professor Bob Gilkes Phone: 08 6488 2509 Email: bob.gilkes@uwa.edu.au Bob has been at UWA since 1969 and has an international reputation for his work in mineralogy and geochemistry of soils and sediments; properties of fertilisers; soil mapping and mine rehabilitation.
Dr Christoph Hinz, Senior Lecturer Phone: 08 6488 3466 Email: christoph.hinz@uwa.edu.au Christoph is researching solute transport and solute interaction with soil solids, processes and modelling of water and gas movement in soil, transport and retention of heavy metals and organic pollutants.
Tim Morald, Research Officer Phone: 08 6488 7348 Email: morald@cyllene.uwa.edu.au
Tim joined the CLR in November 2006 as part of a research project investigating the impact of soil fertility on plant biodiversity in jarrah forest rehabilitation. Tim has a degree in Applied Science (Environmental Management). Prior to joining CLR Tim was of part of Alcoa’s Rehabilitation Research Group where he conducted botanical monitoring and research.
Dr Andrew Rate, Senior Lecturer Phone: 08 6488 2500 Email: andrew.rate@uwa.edu.au Andrew's specific areas of expertise include: soils in geochemical exploration; chemistry of trace elements (including heavy metals) in the environment; beneficial re-use and environmental implications of organic wastes. He has general expertise in soil & water chemistry.
Dr Megan Ryan, Frank Ford Lecturer in Pasture Science Phone: 08 6488 2208 Email: megan.ryan@uwa.edu.au Megan is interested in a variety of areas including: the influence of soil organisms especially mycorrhizal fungi on plant nutrition and health; the influence of soil organisms on nutrient recycling; plant nutrition; biology of native plants; and the use of perennial plants to improve environmental outcomes in pasture systems.
Evonne Walker, Technical Officer Phone: 08 6488 3827 Email: ewalker@cyllene.uwa.edu.au Evonne joined the CLR in February 2006 as a Technical Assistant. She has an Environmental Science degree from Murdoch University and a postgraduate diploma in Soil Science from UWA. She has worked in the labs and the office at Soil Science since 1992, stopping for a few years in between to have two children.
